Equal Exchange

  • LUMC was at the forefront of convincing our local churches (and not just Methodist churches) to buy Fair Traded coffee for their fellowship times? (That is a lot of coffee!)

  • We have been a shareholder in Equal Exchange from their very early days?

Because we believe in what Fair Trade stands for – providing farmers a fair price for what they raise.  Fair Trade is a way of doing business that ultimately aims to keep small farmers an active part of the world marketplace, and aims to empower consumers to make purchases that support their values.  By making the choice to buy fairly traded products, you help provide health care, education and technical training for farmers, workers, and artisans around the world.  Thus, by  supporting Fair Trade we “put our money where our mouth is”.

Equal Exchange is a worker-owned cooperative   that pays its farmer-partners a fair price for their products.  Because they get fair prices, these farmers can improve their lives and communities by offering better public services.  In addition to supporting farmers, a portion of your purchase will go to the United Methodist Committee on Relief .

We offer sales of Equal Exchange products delivered to the church twice/year – springtime and during the Alternative Christmas Market.
