In January 2016, we held a series of Open Meetings looking towards the future of LUMC.  We read Real Good Church: How Our Church Came Back from the Dead, and Yours Can, Too by Molly Phinney Baskette.  Complete notes from the three discussions are posted below.

In the past, the group has had a wide variety of programs including:

  • “The God We Can Know” video study series

  • “The Gatekeepers,” a 2012 Academy Award nominee for best documentary

  • “Naked Isn’t the Last Straw: Tales Spun from the Manger” by Ted Loder

  • “Hospitality: Risking Welcome”

  • “Renewal or Ruin?”  a documentary about the forces currently at work when we set policies in our United Methodist Church

  • “From Holidays to Holy Days: A Benedictine Walk through Advent” by O.S.B. Albert Holtz.

  • “The Power of Forgiveness,” a documentary about forgiveness in the years after 9/11.

  • “In From the Wilderness”, a book study led by the author, Rev. David Weekley, about the life of a transgender clergyman in the UMC.

  • “Animate Faith,” a topical adult study from the creators of “Holy Moly.”

  • “Constantine’s Sword,” a documentary adaptation of James Carroll’s book about the history Christianity and violence.

  • “Living Water,” a study of water and stewardship supplementing our stewardship campaign sermon series.

  • “Toxic Charity,” a book study about the negative influences of churches and charities on the people they serve.

Sundays at 11:30 am.  You aren’t required to bring anything, read anything or prepare anything for these Eleventh Hour studies.  Just join us for an hour, between 11:30 and 12:30.  Everyone is welcome!
